Here’s a testimonial you might not find on Tripadvisor:
“like a concentration camp, absolute hell” – Seamus Culleton

Seriously, what’re you all thinking? DO. NOT. VISIT. THE. USA. FFS!
@aral
Dear world,
Stay the hell away from my country. We cannot guarantee your safety.Cut off all economic ties with us. Our government is ruled by billionaires, and damaging our economy is the only thing they will respond to.

@aral Another aspect is the proposed changes in policy for travellers to the U.S:
"If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. They’re also proposing the collection of DNA."
PI (Privacy International) linked to and summarized a Federal Register entry describing the proposed requirements:
-ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include ‘high value data fields’, ‘when feasible’
‘telephone numbers used in the last five years’
-‘email addresses used in the last ten years’
-‘family number telephone numbers (sic) used in the last five years’
-biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
-business telephone numbers used in the last five years
-business email addresses used in the last ten years.
-All visitors must submit ‘their social media from the last 5 years’ -

@tofugolem @aral I completely agree. The US is a dangerous place to visit. It’s also dangerous to live here with all the guns and near-daily mass shootings.

You have to do some motivated reasoning to think it's OK in any way shape or form.
I just blew my $ budget and carbon budget to link up with US friends who were travelling overseas, coz I know this might be the last chance to see them. -

@aral Why any one would want to visit a rogue state like the US is beyond comprehension.

@aral As a Trans Brit - I immediately abandoned ALL plans to (eventually) visit the US for the "Neotropolis" LARP event purely because how awful it is there! It's just isn't worth my safety over, which is proven time and time again. /gen
@MMusselwhite Sending you lots of love. Here’s hoping such events will start being organised in places that are safe for everyone.

-
@PatrickoftheG Don’t come here unless you are white and Christian. We are a fascist country now. It’s horrible
@bkbarham @PatrickoftheG i would say also do not go when white and christian.
The US isn't a "christian nation" right now it's a facist one with people using christianity to do their worst.
So i'm sorry but i disagree with this statement. White and christian or otherwise you are still not safe in a country run by facists.
Sorry..

@tofugolem you missed the opportunity to call them "the Epstein class". I really want that to stick, so I'm going to obnoxiously point that out every time someone says billionaire. Please don't block me

@aral I saw a poster ad for USIT on the bus on Sunday, extolling the joys of student summer visas (J1, etc.) in the USA.
Couldn't fucking believe it.
@clickhere *smdh* It’s gross negligence to allow such an ad.

@clickhere @aral the problem is you have whole industries set up for this kind of stuff, and they're like "maybe it's ok, I'm not into politics".
Doesn't matter, they're still selling someone 6-9 months in a Texas concentration camp

@aral as a resident of a famous international tourist destination (Santa Cruz, CA)
Do not fkn come here
The beaches/surf are not worth your support of corporate totalitarianism
None of your money goes to localsDo not fkn come here
@Irenetherogue @aral This place is not a place of honor.

Tourists are operating under the assumption that their consulates will fund a legal defense to retrieve them from ICE detention.

Secondly, people are underestimating their fortitude as they pick vegetables for Walmart & Target in 104 degree heat.

@aral U.S. citizen here. I love my country (and yours!) but now is not the time to come here. We cannot guarantee your safety and you would be normalizing Nazis. Wait until they are all in jail or in exile. We WILL get rid of them.
