    RE: https://helvede.net/@jwcph/115504480899348827

OK, this one is on me, but I'm still a little mad at AKAi, too: Turns out the IV is NOT compatible with MacOS versions older than 13.

Which means it works on neither of my two machines because they're too old.

Now I have to decide if I want to return it, or hope that I can somehow get it to work under #Linux, which I'm in the process of switching to on my #BedroomProducer Mac 🤔 (assuming I can complete the switch...)

Seriously, the larger keys alone are really nice!

Note: So far it's just the keyboard working - not the software & none of the advanced functionality of the controller. Which is OK for me; if I can get that other stuff to work, fine, but the keyboard/pad input is what really matters.

@jwcph You know what has amazing support for this device? Zynthian does. I'm planning to pick one up at some point, but Akai's smaller devices have really good driver support for Zynthian's clip launcher, looper, etc.

@hfinyow Yes, I got it to work with Linux - I plugged it in without my USB hub & then it worked & also kept working after I put the hub back in play 😊

@hfinyow Note: Keyboard only - I haven't gotten the software to work yet so none of the "advanced" functions are working.

@jpaskaruk Sounds cool - I'm not a keyboard or synth player, though, so probably a bit above my paygrade 😁

@jwcph It's not just for synths - it implements the complete MOD devices guitar processing system, for instance, and can be used as a DSP (guitar effects, vocal processing, etc). They implemented an audio-to-midi converter as well, I haven't tested it but it works I'm told.

Best part? You don't need the hardware device, if you've got a Raspberry Pi and any USB audio interface you can test it out, there's a screen-only UI mod and you can connect to that by VNC with any touchscreen device, or just use a mouse. You can also, since all the sound engines are just Linux software, access the native UIs of all the software by VNC.

I have the hardware device, and I do play keys so it's definitely more relevant to my life, but it was building my own that got me excited enough to buy it.

edit: if you decide to get ride of that Akai device, not sure where you're located, but maybe I buy it? Like I said, these controllers have amazing support from Zynthian devs.

@jpaskaruk I still didn't understand most of that 😂 I'm keeping it - turns out I can, in fact, get it to work on my old Mac, I just have to enable it manually, whereas the Mini 3 enables automatically (also, the Inmusic software won't run but I can still use it as a MIDI controller just fine) 😊
