    Look, I really want this to work & I'm trying so hard, but I'm THIS CLOSE! to giving up, again.

    Literally NOTHING works. Not only is the one app I need still unusable - I can't add a startup app, I can't add the date to the taskbar, I can't find anything because native search is idiotic & everything is hidden... even LibreOffice barely works, randomly sporting weird artefacts I can't get rid of.

    Again: This is COMPLETELY off the table for any casual user.

      @jwcph

      "I also think that Zorin is more for users who will dip into Linux for a couple of weeks and move back to Windows or Mac where they came from, mostly because the visible wow factor is rather finite and in addition hides the true benefits of using Linux over other OS."

      I don't know anything about Zorin but that is the first quote I found when I googled it. ... I think that "hides the true benefits" part might be what you are running into.

        @HumanServitor I've tried five different distributions. Also, the Zorin forums are actually extremely helpful, especially compared to exactly this kind of "You're just using the wrong Linux" kind of response people keep getting when they run into problems.

          @jwcph I started following a YouTube guy called Dawid, and his latest video was about switching to Linux full time.

          Spoiler, he didn't last a month but it was for two specific reasons. He can't play his favourite games that incorporate anti cheat systems. (One of his faves that did work regularly crashed because Linux would disconnect his network connection!)

          Secondly, he uses an external audio device thing that Linux wouldn't work with properly.

          It's not for everyone.

            @jwcph the whole "low-latency sound" thing in Linux needs work. Seems like something Torvalds should have prioritized more highly, like, 20 years ago

              @djnst So I gather - though with the caveat that I haven't done any thorough testing, latency through my M-Track Duo interface seems to be sufficiently low that I'd be able to record with it... 🤞

                @jwcph my problem was always monitoring what was going into the computer as I was playing. But if that's not required it should at least work

                  @djnst Yeah, that's a different issue alltogether - I'm not that much of a #BedroomProducer, at least not yet 😁
