Oh, OK - spoke too soon, we're back to full-on "Fail" mode: Just did what I said I would, went & fiddled a bit & now #Linux is broken & I don't know if I can be bothered to find out what a "Kernel Panic" is or try to recover from it...
For the record, I wasn't trying anything fancy - apparently that single Windows VST I installed just did something the system doesn't like & it decided the proper punishment was my death as a Linux user.

@jwcph kernel panic is Linux's version of windows' blue screen of death.
The many last kernel panics I have experienced was either with experimental or low quality device drivers or broken hardware. -

I know there's nothing inherently wrong with the thing I installed because thousands of people use it. I know I didn't do anything dangerous in the terminal because I did nothing.
