@signalapp THANK YOU!!!

I made the mistake of reading the comments and am loving* all the people who respond to this great feature with more feature demands.
*not loving, at all.

Or right-click any chat@signalapp as great as Signal really is, I still want to see it become decentralized and not using AWS. But these two things may never happen.

@russ_am Would be nice, but would also pose a few privacy, scalability, and usability concerns.
Namely, your IP being revealed to possibly multiple third parties running decentralized nodes, decentralized networks benefiting less from economies of scale, and the fact that there'd be no central notification service, which could make notifications slower. (see: how long notifications take on Session if you don't use Google's/Apple's notification servers as a proxy, often upwards of 5-30 minutes)

@funnymonkey
when #OWS demand that forked clients stay off their network, and have a closed development process, then what else can users do than beg the masters of this chat app to implement a certain feature?we got lured in by " #opensource " sms-message #e2ee overlay made by #anarchists to an #amazon-hosted #closed and #centralized platform going down the road to #enshittification. dissatified users are a symptom of this.
the contrast to the openness of the heavily #decentralized #deltachat platform is striking.

#deltachat is decentralized messenger, challenging moxie's claim that easy #e2ee has to be centralized:
> In 2016, Signal founder Moxie Marlinspike claimed in the ecosystem is moving that federated systems, and email in particular, can fundamentally not do end-to-end encryption
https://delta.chat/en/2025-08-04-encryption-v2
i still don't understand how an "anarchist" can consider a chat platform centralized on amazon servers with only one permitted client an acceptable solution.
