Wtf. I'm looking into getting our child a passport / identity card*. They're Dutch but living abroad.
We need to bring 14 fricking documents + the toddler.
And then have to pick up the document in person (me + toddler) within three months.
This should be easier.
*it's technically not required as they're Dutch via me and have another EU passport. But it's "highly recommended" by the specialist Dutch civil servants who deal with this as "circumstances and laws can change in the future"..

This can either be done at the Dutch consulate in Copenhagen, or at a number of specially assigned Gemeentes in the middle and south of the Netherlands.
Risk with the consulate option is that they will only assess the documents at the appointment. And from experience it seems they're looking for faults there, necessitating another appointment. Going to Gemeente in NL gives the option to send the docs digitally and have them do a pre-check.
All this for a passport that's valid for 5yrs.

@Pepijn I sometimes bitch about Danish bureaucracy and then I hear something like this* and feel better.
* I realise this is because I don't have to deal with Danish immigration laws which are by all accounts kafkaesque.
