They don’t anyway but there’s zero chance “hyperscaling” makes them any money long term. Uptake is “not what they hoped” to say the least; the big juicy corporate clients don’t want to spend the cost of employees to replace employees as it turns out. The capabilities have been wildly overstated to impress investors. The AI hack things (exploiting common vulnerabilities) are not “AI went rogue” imo, that’s capabilities signalling to the military (their only really viable big juicy customer with tons of money left). And they got another year or so of cash left.

But they can’t say that out loud. That would be suicidal. That would mean instant calls on their debt. “Give us our fucking money back this isn’t what you promised” basically.

So they try to claim it’s a “danger”

It’s no more intrinsically dangerous than my cat on an empty stomach

Reply to AI isn’t going to “take over the Internet” on Mon, 14 Sep 2026 09:34:38 GMT

@Elizafox Not only the military, but also the civilian surveilance state. The only seemingly viable business model for data centers is to process the ever growing stream of surveillance data (video, sound recordings, internet/banking/"smart" device usage patterns etc), and sell it to governments and law enforcement as "surveillance as a service".
