The story is nowhere near over.</p><p>For twenty-five years, <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/AutisticiInventati" rel="tag">#<span>AutisticiInventati</span></a>  showed what it could mean for movements to build and control their own communications infrastructure. Its loss should not send everyone searching for the next single service to replace it.</p><p>It should send us looking in a hundred directions.</p><p>In Boise, the Boise Autonomous Solidarity Hub is experimenting with one of them. <span><a href="https://kolektiva.social/@BASH">@<span>BASH</span></a></span> has put a small independent publication on NomadNet, a system running over Reticulum rather than relying solely on the conventional web. That's what makes it interesting.</p><p>Other projects are trying other things: cooperative infrastructure, self-managed servers, RSS, mirrors, print, radio, downloadable archives, federated publishing and networks that barely resemble the commercial web at all.</p><p>We don't need to find another A/I. MeshChat is a good starting point made by the developer of the Reticulum stack. MeshChatX is a 3rd party expansion of the software with additional tools. So until our guide is published look up both of those. </p><p>To our knowledge, Reticulum handles the networking layer, discovering paths between nodes and routing encrypted packets without IP addresses, DNS, or centralized servers.</p><p>NomadNet sits on top of that and provides text pages, messaging, and node-hosted resources. Do these pages have to have a meaning to them, or could I just make a page for funsies? What hardware is used to make this work/access it? Presumably the book explains, but NON internet "internet" is fascinating and I've always wanted to see that type of concept. I'd love to make a page with this. Use anything else and we surveil you even more. Build your own and we'll probably hack it - but we usually don't want to admit that in court.</p><p>We saw some of this with the Snowden revelations. One red flag that would result in enhanced surveillance was reading the Linux journal, for some unclear reason that today is hilarious but at the time may have had something to do with exploits and self-hosting.</p><p>Fundamentally while we still need infrastructure and we still need back-office people, we have to assume that **ALL** roles are ultimately arrestable. One way or another they will come for all of us, sooner or later.
