<![CDATA[This rare bronze purse was found with six #gold coins still inside in the #Celtic oppidum (settlement) at Manching.]]>This rare bronze purse was found with six coins still inside in the oppidum (settlement) at Manching. It was originally sealed with an organic material, presumably a leather strap. The purse is rather small: 4.3x3.3 cm. The diameter of the smallest coin is 6.5mm.

Dating ca. 200 BC.
On display at Archäologische Staatssammlung München.

I imagine that also would let a prospective thief know from half a mile away.

Do you ever think about how those coins were last touched by a person who put them in there, maybe after buying something, in another time and place, fully expecting to take them out again later... but instead 2000 years pass before they are ever touched again?

There is something very intimate about objects like this one.
