They wait behind me when I’m going up a hill. They let me turn left. They give me space when passing. It’s genuinely bonkers how much nicer it’s made my experience of urban cycling.

I would believe that. Back when I was doing hiking trail maintenance it was well known that putting American flag stickers on the trail markers made them less likely to be destroyed.

I haven’t tried flags, but I know a guy with a cargo bike who adds an American flag to his rig on the grounds that the people most likely to be assholes will instead do a “ah yes a fellow patriot beer and hotdogs god bless merica” and leave him unmolested.
