Mistakes are how we learn, not just how we fuck things up. But it's important to discuss mistakes to avoid the latter just as much as to achieve the former. I used to be in private contracting. My counterpart on the federal side was a peevish career fed who always seemed to want to find scapegoats to blame. She said this overtly one time when we had some sort of slip-up on a contract task and I said, "I'd like to focus on finding solutions here," and she actually said with her mouth-hole, "no, I want to find out who's to blame!"

I later ended up working with her as a fed when I joined government.
