Writing is an integral part of doing research.

How about developing dedicated tools for uncritical writing-related tasks such as spell checking? And not call them AI? They would then *automatically* be outside of the scope of AI policies. A simple and smart move! We should have thought of this long ago.

Hanson selected and invited some of us to discuss what computing's responsibility for climate change is and develop guidance for @ACM policy. In the resulting report, we said that "computing’s purpose within a strategy for tackling climate change must be reimagined." (See the report for more.)

Is ACM going to be part of this reimagination? 🤷‍♂️
