btw, two years ago they announced this: https://betterweb.qwant.com/en/2024/11/08/ecosia-and-qwant-join-forces-to-develop-european-search-index/

I don't really know how far it went, but it was supposed to be launched in 2025 already. Afaik, both Qwant and Ecosia still use Google/Bing.
