<![CDATA[New Year, new Wikipedia list.]]>New Year, new Wikipedia list.

Wrote a quick stub for Valorie Taylor, the Republican chosen by the Governor to replace Jim Harrison who resigned from the Vermont House of Representatives because he's moving to New Hampshire. Taylor had previously resigned from her town's selectboard (where she served as chair) citing "stress" as the reason. No official portrait yet, so here's her running a race.

I also always squint a little when I hear games described as "interactive fiction." But that's why the first thing that came to my mind was Racter, which was third person!

She noticed a bit from a woman, Amanda Goodenough, who had created a hypercard deck that was also an interactive childrens' story. Turns out it was probably the first interactive digital story when it came out, in 1987. Thanks to the miracle of digital archiving and emulating, we can interact with that same story, in nearly the same way, 40 years later. And I wrote a short Wikipedia article about Amanda. He died with no money (having bequeathed his book for $2500 some years before) and the book sold in 2025, to the mayor of his Croatian hometown, for $225 K. When I say book, you really can't imagine....

His desktop was a background of many years of Vermont Life covers. He had a bit of a hand tremor so I set him up with a bigger cursor and showed him how speech-to-text worked. When I worked with someone else she said "Do you know who that WAS?" I did not. Turns out it was Tom Slayton, retired longtime editor of Vermont Life. No Wikipedia page (til now). An honor to write it.

The Wikipedia page for the event had a redlink for the venue where they played. So now there's a page for the Kitsap County Fairgrounds and Events Center.

I am not great with sports stuff so I had to look up what a hockey announcer actually does (the organists I know about 😂 ) and how the Stanley Cup playoffs work. Most of what I know about hockey comes from Shoresy and Heated Rivalry Insta content and growing up down the road from Bobby Sweeney. This one was fun to write.

Adobe had a policy that ID badges had your first name in a large font and caps and your last name in a smaller font, camel case. I forged a badge that read JESUS H. Christ. The badges were supposed to be difficult to forge. I used the fake badge for months afterwards.
