In most cases it's been presented as a question & the intent is honest. I also live in Alaska where we will offer advice from our own expertise.

I was a carpenter in the bush, I'm also pretty well broken up & it's obvious. If I'm in Lowes & someone looks confused I will offer from my experience.

The only people who appear offended are those new to Alaska & probably who could really use what we offer. Alaska requires skill in many & varied situations.
