I mean come on, TOS had an episode where people had half white, half black skin, and they were racist against other people with half black, half white skin. They aired the first interracial kiss on television. Trek has never been subtle about its social commentary.

The worst Trek episodes have always been the ones where the underlying commentary was either non-existent, or buried and hard to spot. The clip show where RIker has non-stop nightmares, and the one where Crusher fucks a space ghost for example.

If you think Trek was ever just about Romulans and Feds shooting at each other, you are a simple minded moron.

The world you build, the characters you have, their choices. It all says something about how you think the world should or shouldn't be

"I don't like social commentary " is code for either "i don't want to debate people because then I would have to question myself " or "i am happy with the status quo and don't want to change anything "

The point of sci-fi is social commentary. "Let me show you some aspect of our world through the lens of space stuff so that it's easier to see the problem "

You can argue about how that social commentary is done, I know people complain about recent Doctor Who being clunky when it comes to messages, but saying you don't want any messages?

That's just a lie

He can do scientific scifi with low social interaction (Martian, Hail Mary). He was, er, _not so good_ when trying to portray humans and their interaction (Artemis, weak in every regard).

He has his niche where he performs. He should stick to it.
