We get this compleeeetly! The aesthetic of some platforms out there is a real assault on the senses. We'd personally love to be active on Mastodon and Blusky but we'd need special magic goggles that hide the interface clutter and timeline trash. The filters and feed customizations on Blusky are a good idea but in practice they require an obscene amount of effort and the feed is still 75% spam.
@Xover0 Yeeeeeees! Like don't get me wrong - here definitely has some pros. It's easy to follow text threads. Alt text works. You're more connected and aware of what's happening. You can see reposts etc.
Cons - you're more connected and aware of what's happening and there's a lot happening all the time and it's hard to keep up with anything
. The UI of Pixelfed is so much more accessible and aesthetically pleasing! It just needs some GD fixes!!

I can't work this app. I've gotten old. Can't keep up with the photos/people as much as I would like to. Everything is so fast and cluttered here!!
Watch my sorry butt come crawling back to Pixelfed in a few days... (I will only accept being called an idiot if it's in the form of a meme.)
Anyway, please for the love of all that is (insert your own here), update the damn thing! It needs it!

@NotAHope this makes me laugh. i always used my mastodon and pixelfeds for 2 different things so I largely kept both separate, but it was also because i could never quite get mastodon and I have a lot of trouble with sequential posts that some people do, like I see them in my timeline backwards with other people’s unrelated posts mixed in. i have no time to figure that out lol

I'm sure you're right, but I just don't get what you mean. On the whole, I'm happy here and find it infinitely more peace-of-mind-ful than that horrid brainwashing place I was before.

That's why I like to keep Mastodon and Pixelfed separated.
Btw, Dansup has shipped an update to #pixelfed: "We have shipped a fix for hashtag following, users on pixelfed.social should see followed tag posts in your home feed️"

I use Mastodon for conversations, thoughts, daily life - as a journal one could say. There, I only follow ~60 people and am only followed by ~50. Thus my feed isn't cluttered and I am surrounded by people I like (some of them I even know in person).
Pixelfed - to me - is a totally different story. I am not here every day, this account is not locked, I don't (usually
) engage in conversations, I am followed by an (to me) unbelievable amount of people. This is my haven when all I want to do is look at beautiful photos and keep it light.
The Fediverse is so big. It caters to every need, but it takes getting used to and finding the right instance, app, software/platform.
So, don't give up, try things out and maybe learn to accept that this is not run by one giant company with tons of money and therefore things aren't perfect or may take longer.
In the end, it's worth it
I love the freedom and diversity of the Fediverse and am very grateful to Dan and Eugen and all the others who developed all of this

️@NotAHope There are ways to manage the firehose. This page from @FediTips might be helpful:
If you scroll down there’s a section called “The timelines are scrolling way too quickly, I can’t keep up with them! How do I slow them down or pause them?” with some quick steps to take. I should probably do that myself.
You can also mute conversations you no longer want to follow, hide boosts from an account, etc. Hang in there!
