Speak for yourself. Brazil does have its own payment method that does not rely on credit card companies (only the respective banks), it is free and somewhat private (banks don't know what you bought, though they will know the transaction) and instant and everyone can use it both for paying and receiving payments.

It's not that hard to do. Of course, the US threatened sanctions over it, and there are many other political interests in not replicating or interoperating with this system.
