I also struggle a lot with going into a complete automatism forgetting to be due to ~various issues~. E.g. it's not good for me that phones are so easily accessible and useable. I spent so much more time on them than I want, 'cuz "hmh I wonder this or that" turns quickly into hours lost.

With activities that require a bit of time or focus, this isn't rly an issue. That's why I dislike optimization of our lifes, fitness, ...... too >.<

I live with PTSD and also enjoy coffee; it has been suggested that maybe if I have an anxiety disorder I shouldn't drink coffee at all. I disagree, but I understand the sentiment.

So, I grind my coffee by hand, one cup at a time. It really does limit my consumption, since it has become a *focused* activity, not incidental. And, the length of time it takes sometimes gives me a chance to remember thjat I've already had two cups today.

I absolutely do not want this optimized.

I notice it in the kitchen for example. We are so accustomed to refrigeration and everything being available everytime that I have 0 knowledge on how to preserve and store things for longer periods of time outside a freezer.

My grandparents still grew up with that knowledge.

There's an argument to be made that the convenience utilities are sometimes even faster - but
a) why should we try to optimise everything all the time?
b) but at what cost?
