The French government has built its own replacement for Google Docs/Microsoft Office. Cities, including Lyon, are moving to Linux and other tech. Open source is at the center of their efforts.

While the government often announces grand plans to switch, its agencies tend to sign last minute deals with Microsoft in the end; while the private sector, especially startups, is firmly committed to Google.

Fwiw, the @EUCommission uses with support from Symas. They certainly seem to have prioritized support of open source infrastructure, at least.

While @ngi is comming to an end, I hope this period of political turbulence and the danger of allowing the USA to have so much power over our technology will enable the EU and member governments to rethink it's stance on funding
