They seem to only focus on outward appearance and behaviorβ€”how it affects everyone else, not how it affects us.

On a daily basis, the sensory issues are a bigger concern than anything else, but that rarely gets mentioned. It's so buried that many people don't even know that it is part of autism. That's probably why, to this day, people still only self realize very late in life.

So I think the professionals have known this for a long time even if the general public doesn't.
