Well, get this: Turns out MBP's from around this time onwards also don't have enough juice to handle audio playback. Just, you know, ordinary sound like alerts, nothing fancy.

If there's a few too many tabs open in your browser, sound starts glitching. Known core issue, no fix.

Tried Reaper, Reason, Calkwalk, Abelton, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio & Acid Pro. I liked the latter but it’s Windows only & I won’t ever use a Windows machine again ever. Of the others each one has interesting features but not everything I need. What I like about MixBus is that it’s a digital representation of an analog workflow, and that’s my background, having worked in a major Vancouver studio in the 80’s. I’ve grown with Logic over 20+ years, so it’s going to be tough.

Jobs came up with the “magic quadrant” concept for consumer/business computing needs to help minimize the number of models and choices. So you had two or three options with a machine and limited configuration options for those. Now there’s like 80 different iPads, 20 different laptops, god knows how many iPhones. It’s the antithesis of Jobs vision and a nightmare for consumers. Not sure about John Ternus but he’s definitely got his work cut out for himself to fix the mess.

Agree that Cook doesn’t have the same kind of vision or drive that Jobs had, and that the company has gone seriously downhill since the latter died.

I’m actually abandoning Logic, which I’ve been using since version 3. It’s been going downhill for a while now, and the switch to Apple Silicon has turned it into a bugfest. Once I finish my current project I’ll be moving to MixBus Pro. Big learning curve but it’ll be worth it long term.

- but yes, since the early 10's Apple laptops have been getting progressively worse in almost every way. When was it that Jobs died & Cook took over...?

The 2018 MBP’s had major overheating issues. I have one that was late 2018, after they’d supposedly fixed the issue. Only time the fan really kicks in for me is playing Civilization V through Steam. My understanding is that when the CPU overheats (basically why the fan kicks in) it also drops the processing speed. Which then triggers a recursive loop.

Intels have always had overheating problems. It’s probably why Apple abandoned Intel and moved to Apple Silicon.
