It was always about what they perceive as a thing that will someday make them lots of money if they push it hard enough and more and more they're seeing it not make that money so they're pushing harder and harder with a fast growing desperation. (And wow are they getting desperate. Anyone with 1/100th of a brain would realize by now it's never going to make the money they think it is. But CEOs and board members aren't hired for their brains...)
