It's a multiplier for the hard work of practice.</li><li>Dedicated hard work will beat pure talent, every time.</li></ul><p>I think the idea of a prodigy who succeeds through sheer talent, is an appealing myth for a few reasons. Largely it's for people who don't want to face the part about hard work.<br />First, it's used as an excuse: "I'd love to {become an artist, play piano, etc.} but I don't have any talent." Just like you'd expect others to rein in their anger.
