Hi #fediverse. We need to talk about something.

While talking to a colleague it came up that they have never sat on a cow. Like, not even once in their childhood.

Another colleague listening in admitted they also have never sat on a cow.

My hypothesis is that most people have at one point in their life sat on a cow.

    🐃 🐄 🐮

Have you sat on a cow?

    Please boost for scientific accuracy.

To everyone who is nice: thanks for the comments. It's interesting to see people's experiences and how there seem to be regional and cultural differences in what people think of this.

Here's a video of a chicken cosplaying as a duck. No cows were hurt in the making of this video. No-one sat on the chicken.

@Pepijn Actually, this reminds me a lot about partying in the Netherlands in my teens.

@Pepijn this is kind of reminding me of the time my friend just casually talked about going to jousting matches as a kid and we were all like "wtf, did you grow up in a Medieval court?" and it turns out he grew up in Zeeland which is the one place in the world that still regularly does this and he thought it was normal.

Sometimes you don't know your childhood experiences aren't universal until you do a Mastodon poll I guess. I'm now wondering what I think is common that isn't

Actual jousting, or the variant where people try to spear a metal ring on a piece of string?

@EvilCartyen @Pepijn I think the ring version, but he didn't know the English word for it so he described it as the sport where people ride horses at eat other with poles

Ah, that's called 'ringridning' in Denmark. There are events/festivals in Southern Jutland, Bornholm, and select other areas of Denmark every summer. Guess we also joust in Denmark 😄

                  @EvilCartyen
"Ringsteken" was/is not only common in Zeeland. I've seen it (aprox. 40 years ago) in Katwijk aan Zee which is in Zuid-Holland.

@src_esther Also in the north of the country. For example: twice a year in the centre of Bolsward.

It's a nice experience when the heavy horse carts, with their solid wheels, come racing over the canal streets.

edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n0dH0Y6urU Is this similar to what it looks like in Denmark?

@Pepijn @src_esther @afewbugs I've only been once as a kid, but usually there's a parade and a festival and the event is single riders using a sort of spear, no carts. It's not too far from you guys, in Sønderborg or Aabenraa, so you could easily go in the summer. Might be elsewhere too, like in Tønder.

                        Just to add to @EvilCartyen

The one in Aabenraa is organised through http://ringrider.dk (they have pictures from the presentation of the horses and riders when they parade through the city and the music bands that play)

I've attached a picture of the "battle ground" and tried to describe in the alt text what's going on.
