Understand: That money went into someone's pockets.

This is actually exactly how it always works under fascism, which at its heart is nothing but a corrupt grift, executed by way of a power grab.

It always produces grand pseudo-visions which result in expensive, but worthless infrastructure, from statues to malfunctioning factories - which are nonetheless paid for in full & then some, to the regime itself & its friends.

There is absolutely nothing new or surprising about this.
