I think most people giving an estimate will picture multi-account servers, don't directly think of single-person servers. It also happened unwittingly with me. The first group I'd vote b) and the second (all-inclusive) I'd vote c).

On reflection I think "Actor" is okay. It is accurate, and they need not be Person actors, can be all kinds. They are how you act i.e. are represented on the social network.

The term "server" itself is imho an unfortunate case of a lower-level abstraction (that of the installed base) creeping into a high-level one (that of the unified social network stratum). It is a passed station, but a multi-account server/instance might simply be called a Hub.

(Actor is also kind of a technical name, but Person doesn't match, and Identity is awkward. Account is possible, still technical. Fedizen might be used, but rings a bit weird.)

What do you mean that the lifetime of servers doesn't tell much about the Fediverse as a whole?
