or of course use the vibe coded trash that struggles with moving layers

and i don't think it's an issue with oh developers don't care about users. as i've said it again, gimp has a perfectly usable interface but because nobody has the time or will to relearn how to use a new program we are suddenly hit with oh but it's too hard, oh it's not intuitive, which is a big misconception imo

I can relate to that. I quickly gave up on using GIMP because I couldn't even understand how to downsize an image there. It looks to me like something for professional use that to me isn't worth learning to deal with because I only want something that helps me fix when a photo is too big to upload or send, when the light could be a bit brighter and the contrast a bit higher. I don't feel like putting lots of time and energy into learning how to do that with GIMP.
