What they're doing is trying to get us to accept their authority to perform this kind of gatekeeping. After that, it will be a matter of moving the goalposts until Fender gets the final "Yay or Nay" for every electric guitar manufactured anywhere: Either pay them a licensing fee, or don't make the guitar you want to make.

I cannot stress enough how this is obviously their goal.
