One wonders what's going to happen to bajillions of small hosting companies that are profitable as long as all their equipment isn't 2-10 times more expensive than it used to be. For now, they're just passing the costs on to their customers. But my guess is the hosting industry is headed for a wave of consolidation and/or bankruptcies.

I've recently reviewed a purchase request of hardware for a bank: the cost ranges between 3x and 4x of what it was. And it wasn't cheap in the first place.

We're planning 5-6 year investments now and searching for refurbished hardware. Luckily our CSP (OVH) adopts circular economy inside, so the recycle their own hardware. This should keep prices from spiking, probably leading to a gradual increase over time.

Correction: hosting a *dynamically generated* website *without* a cache-friendly architecture will be a LOT more expensive.

If you are hosting a static site or you have a proper cache setup you'll see more hits/bandwidth but not much for CPU/memory/disk usage.

We just go back to the same optimizations from the days of PHP-heavy websites making database queries for every page load: fix your stupid site, stop wasting CPU and database queries for every page load. Cache it. Aggressively. Do it right. A global task tracking catastrophe occurs when complex work is distributed across so many people, documents, systems, and automated tools that no one maintains a reliable model of the task as a whole.

Each participant tracks only a narrow fragment; design intent, schedule, pricing, procurement, code compliance, inspection, or document production. The organization therefore loses track of:

what has actually been decided,
what remains provisional,
which evidence supports each claim,
what changed and why,
who owns unresolved decisions,
and which downstream assumptions are now invalid.

Once shared state collapses, organizations begin mistaking professional-looking artifacts for completed work. Approved submittals, stamped drawings, inspection sign-offs, confident code citations, meeting minutes, and AI-generated summaries become substitutes for verified understanding.

The central failure is not human versus machine. It is:

verified reasoning versus plausible authority.

Humans already produce confident but incorrect approvals, interpretations, and inspections. AI intensifies the problem by generating polished outputs faster than qualified people can meaningfully verify them. This creates verification debt: the growing gap between how much work appears complete and how much has actually been reconciled with reality.
