Absolutely - and it's also flat-out media complicity in said hype. Remember, as @pluralistic pointed out recently, that there's a lot of documentation going on around things like IPO filings & many of those documents are far closer to the real story & on public record & any journalist can read them & tell the world what's in there.

The news media not printing those headlines is a choice & an abdication of duty.
