In the last 2 days we've gotten several donations (some as "purchase") ranging from 250 → 500 USD. Always same amount as USD (which was suspicious since we rarely get USD).

The trick of the cheaters: They will open a "Paypal Buyers protection" case and if you just send back the money rather than "cancelling" the real transaction, they will get the money twice...

Suggestion: Mark it as fraud and let Paypal resolve it.

From what you wrote, the receiver sends back the money and thus gains or loses no money – so why should i care for Paypal or scamers?
