I really never looked at this through the lens of that political / IT cross section before but you're absolutely right.

These guys will fly into a foreign country and kidnap a president. Why wouldn't they abuse their data access

Except for a few privacy-minded folks here on Mastodon, I think nobody is yet waking up. They are all still asleep at the wheel, still using Google Analytics. And like with GDPR in 2018, executives will panic when they're "suddenly" confronted with hefty fines and can't meet the deadlines because "nobody warned us in time".

It's crazy all of the "I don't know why startups hate us" and "why don't we have more tech firms like America?" I hear coming out of the European continent.

The simple fact is that the Americans dominate the market and have totally unrestricted access to the EU.

Money gets siphoned out of European consumers and into silicon valley tech salaries.
