Not least because they're called Chumbawamba, and not Chumbawumba,

But yeah, they were out there plugging away for 15 years before Tubthumping came along and made sure everyone knew who they were. Well, who they thought they were.

Anyone who'd heard literally any of their music before would have known that they weren't really a super-pop Top 40 band. And aside from that one outlier, they never were.

Danbert Nobacon pouring water over John Prescott's head wasn't at ALL out of character for Chumbawamba, but the media wanged on like they'd done the band a favour and all they got in return was aggro.
