The river is so much wider down there, the winds are less disrupted, and the distance between the Sellwood and Ross Island bridges is several miles, so that was waaaay less sketchy than this!

However! This pilot has found the loophole. The regulation in question forbids flying any closer than 500 feet to any structure (1000 feet in congested areas), except when necessary for takeoff and landing.
