I have a friend that works at Amazon, and he says there are exactly two stress clients for AWS. Amazon.com and Netflix, which is by far the largest AWS customer.

At the time he told me this, Amazon.com didn't actually run on AWS, but rather it's old datacenter system. They just stress test with the shopping site's load.

The costs associated with all that data storage are just too high. The main reason to buy youtube is to own the largest piece of self-produced content on the internet. Amazon keeps twitch around to test their CDN for Amazon video, which they care about far more. In either case, the bias is toward whatever is considered less contravercial. Which makes this an interesting test for them.
