The amount of money tied up in this is huge. The comparison I'm making is how I think there is a similarity to 2008 in that a lot of people have personal investment in kicking this can down the road for as long as possible and extracting as much money for themselves and their own interests, which are not at all the same as even their company's interests.

You've got a lot of people in this AI fiasco with the same sorts of individual motivations, many of whom probably see the overall picture quite clearly, but are going to keep inflating this thing and reaping the individual rewards for as long as possible.
