I tried using Plasma under Wayland for a while. Liked the modern look and the ability to zoom in and out with the touchpad (old eyes), but it seemed unresponsive now and then.

I did, but it struck me as lots of resources for not much gain. I don't mind a simple setup (X11 and Xfce), as long as it doesn't get in my way.

I'm using Debian, GNOME and Wayland on my main system. This is not light on resources, but it seems very polished and suits how I work.

(Never used GNOME before 3.3.x, so I don't have an opinion on GNOME 2 versus GNOME 3 and later)
