I love how you can put a lifespan on your posts on mastodon - I think this should be a mandatory feature everywhere.

I am curious about whether this "temporality of data" has a name and if there are articles about it.

I don't think the data storage performed by e.g. YouTube is sustainable at all and I am curious about how we can make the fediverse "sustainable".

How do we decide the lifespan of different posts / videos / livestreams ?

I've listened to the first episode of the trilogy. Wow, they are good at making podcasts !

They mostly talk about library socialism (duh), but the fictional story they intertwine in the podcast tackles the question of whether to store everything ever created 🙂

I'm looking forward to the next two episodes - thanks a lot for the recommendation 🙂

Both should be able to exist though.
The decision of what to delete and how fast is necessarily subjective (I think).
I am curious about how this can / should be done and if it is even necessary (I believe so) 🙂

Maybe something like "the duty to delete" ?

To expand on my original post:
I think we need to see data as a limited ressource.
I don't think it is sustainable to store every piece of media ever made for ever. I also think some media should be stored for longer than others:
