<![CDATA[Hi!]]>Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.

I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.

Thanks for the hashtag tip. I was feeling pretty burnt out so I set myself the challenge to read a book from every country. The rule is that the author has to be born there. I just look up books from the country I want to read from and choose what sounds good to me. I also read recommendations sent to me by others. I’m tracking it on Instagram so far. I enjoy reading the cyber people's takes here, helps me understand the issues with a little bit more nuance. Once you get the hang of curating your feed, you'll be fine. Also, topics can be seasonal. More gardening posts in Northern Hemisphere spring/summer, more knitting, woolcraft in NH winter. Southern hemisphere people are a nice reminded that the world is round. Take your time!
