There's a trade-off, though, as there often is - the pads are nowhere near as good as the Mini 3. They're not just smaller; they also don't feel as nice to play on. If I had the room I'd seriously consider having them both plugged in (switching is a bit of a hassle).

Also, weirdly, the #MIDI signal from the pads is different somehow, as if they double-trigger... maybe that's down to not having the AKAI software running, since it's not compatible with my ancient Mac
