PieFed user surge continues! š

Youāre going for a general use instance?
Yeah, general use with somewhat if a focus on the Nordics āmarketā, but Iām not planning on launching competing communities against anything existing.

Sure, but Iām more thinking about increasing server spread across Piefed rather than specific communities as such.

A couple of successful Reddit posts. This last jump was from r/BuyFromEU.
Thats how I ended up here. Even deleted my reddit account.

We need some new (a couple) of general-use instances to help direct this traffic! Piefed.social will help you and redirect traffic to you.
Quokk.au is general use and international.

Multiple advertisement posts on DeGoogle, a canadian subreddit and BuyFromEu.
And Trump for threatening to invade Canada and Greenland.

Seems like a nice occasion for a reminder that this stuff is all made and run on a volunteer basis. There are many ways to contribute, but the easiest by far is by donating a little bit of money on a regular basis! Donāt be deterred by feeling you have to give a lot - if a lot of people give a little thatās much better. So give a little!
I use Liberapay, but patreon and ko-fi links are available under the āDonateā menu entry at piefed.social. The average LiberaPay contributor gives less than a dollar per weekāwhich is awesome.
Alternatively, if youāre on another instance, consider giving a little bit to your instance to help keep it running! Itās all running on love and goodwill, and it works precisely because people like you decide itās worth contributing.

Itās absolutely worth it to give to the Piefed project for how much effort these folks put in. If I were a developer Iād contribute that way, too.

Wow this is great!!

Iām working on getting https://nord.pub online!(rebrand from experimental nord.red) Well, it is online but I wanted proper HA, Backups, and some curated Topics.
Hosted in the Nordics and committed to not being dependent on US tech. (using Hetzner Finland and BunnyCDN)
Awesome. When youāre ready, go to https://nord.pub/admin/instance_chooser and fill in the form.

Scalloped growth is normal for social media platforms. Donāt panic when it dips
Yes, MAU is a bit misleading like that⦠Maybe 20% of them will stick around if weāre lucky.

Signed up! I still might stick to this account mainly, but a Nordic oriented Piefed instance is definitely appealing.

Yep we already have a bunch of good instances ready to go:
- https://quokk.au/ - southern hemisphere
- https://piefed.zip/ - uk
- https://feddit.online/ - usa
- https://piefed.ca/ - canada
- https://piefed.blahaj.zone/ - lgbqa
- https://piefed.europe.pub/ - europe
- https://pf.korako.me/ - japan
- https://nord.pub/ - norway
ā¦and ~60 more which seem to be for personal or closed-group use but which could open their doors any time - https://piefed.fediverse.observer/list

And a million more on the way!
The instance chooser thing is a great addition to PF to help get users distributed across instances.

still a win. iād rather the people who like it and put in effort stay than be awash with people who arenāt bringing much. the biggest is the more people who try it and decide to stay the more diversity of thought weāll get. the threadiverse has a very eurocentric bias (here being the sociological construct, US and Canada both contribute to eurocentricism). i donāt presume this will be fixed in this bump, but it is an opportunity for us who are already here to listen to new voices

Me too, fellow BuyerFromEU!
Just didnāt delete my Reddit yet. Thereās some subreddits I need there that donāt have the equivalent here yet.
But the plan is to start using this as my primary, and only go there when I need those. -

If by ādirect trafficā you mean to send them there, then Iād say we donāt need that, and shouldnāt want it. The whole reason federation works is because control is spread out. Giving one, or a few, instances control of most of the content and users is a horrible idea and begging for issues. Speaking of, if youāre on lemmy.world, you should consider spreading elsewhere. At least donāt send new people there.
