@liaizon That's a huge limitation in that case. Do you mean it can't be or that it is not by default, but that you can turn it on?

@malte @jowek @mjj @farvel-big-tech the link that @jowek posted above says "With the announcement of the Nextcloud end-to-end encryption techpreview, we’d like to invite you to scrutinize our source code and cryptographic approach in this whitepaper." So it seems likes now being worked on, tho this is listed as Nextcloud Enterprise which I haven't looked into whether that's actually avaliable in the same way or they are selling it

Jeg bruger Delta Chat i flere fællesskaber.
Det er både til beskeder og så er der diverse indbyggede apps. Kalender, dele pads, koordineringsværktøj til gentagende opgaver, doodle, regning splitter osv. osv.
Det tager 30 sekunder at sætte op, og så er det på vej til at blive en bedre kryptering end signal. Det er decentral, kan selv hostes og kræver ingen oplysninger fra dig.

Aftaler, kalender, deling af ting og sager etc.

@liaizon It's my understanding that client <-> server is encrypted and serverside encryption is optional @nextcloud ?. I don't use serverside encryption, as I'm the only user of my instance.

@jowek Lyder lovende! Tror du det er brugervenligt nok til at folk der er fuldkommen IT-uvante kan bruge det? Det er som sagt til et bofællesskab, så hele udsnittet af befolkningen er der. What's the catch? Dvs. hvad holder alle dem (som mig) der bruger matrix, signal, måske endda cryptpad osv fra at bruge delta chat i stedet? @mjj @farvel-big-tech

@tanghus using TLS but that's this same as every website, that's not the same thing as e2ee

@liaizon According to the page on NC Enterprise encryption, there options both for E2EE and Encrypted at rest. Judging from the large organizations that use NC (Amnesty, Siemens, governments, banks for example), I would be surprised if everything was lying there in their servers unencrypted. https://nextcloud.com/encryption/

@malte @tanghus @jowek @mjj @farvel-big-tech looking into this more you can see some information about how their optional encryption works if its set up here https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/stable/admin_manual/configuration_files/encryption_configuration.html
I didn't know they supported this, so thats cool, I am curious if any of the small community run instances have set this up. knowing how slow nextcloud is normally I would imagine this would potentially slow it down even more if it was enabled.

@liaizon Oh that's good information - speed is really important for me. I find the slowness of Cryptpad to be one of the main limitations for me. I wish decrypting every document as I am working didn't take so long. The way I work with groups is we often have many documents going that we need to go in and out of.
