Do you have any personal goals for growing/building the Fediverse?

My goal is to average 1 post and 7 comments a week. I started late, and not there yet, but hope to get there within the next month. Do you have any goals or plans on building the Fediverse?
I heard there was a plan to do a monthly Piefed “hackathon” to improve Piefed, but I think that was mostly for translation. Is there any update on that or any other interesting plans out there to improve any part of the Fediverse?
No.
I just hope to promote/comment and upvote interesting thoughtful content which I see here. Sadly however, as the months go by I see less and less of it and more straight up hate speech, insults, and ragebait. Today alone I was insulted and called stupid/dumb/immature multiple times by people spouting ignorant hate filled nonsense as if it was a fundamental truth of the world.
Fedi really is starting to grow and sadly all the negatives of that growth come with it. Been using it for over 2 years and the first 1.5 years were mostly chill. The past .5 years have exploded my block list from a few people to 100s. It will be harder for federation as time goes on and various instances become more extremist in their content and rhetoric. The majority hateful commentary I get comes from a certain handful of instances whose goal and purpose is to promote their ignorant narrow world views and condemn all others.

I schedule a post every day on peertube. I want to grow fedi videos. And a good way is to post interesting things. Seems to be working! Views and subscriptions are up across the board.

I intend to use either Lemmy or PieFed, or some equivalent, to do a self-publishing site:
you know how some communities are “locked”, such that only the moderators post, but everybody can comment?
An author’s site, like that, but in-depth writing, not just links to for-profit-site’s articles, see?
Rendering “Medium” and “Substack” and all the rest of the “if you want to be a writer who is known, you have to be within our platform” cartels irrelevant…
Income through Ko-Fi, FundRazr, etc, instead of their paywalled-“garden”.
If many authors were to do that, then:
- authors would have DIRECT COMMUNITY, & feedback
- the damn “IF you want to be a writer, THEN you obey OUR for-profit platform” paradigm could permanently go eat rocks, &
- since federating is voluntary, spontaneous this-author-federates-with-that-one networks of writers can emerge, thus replacing the publishing-cartel’s oldfangled newspapers, magazines, book houses, platforms, etc.
Book-people who understand digital-community are likely to understand this paradigm,
but the people who hold that there is ONLY 1 use for Lemmy/PieFed: that is where ANYbody can submit articles, & author-instances simply aren’t tolerable, because they aren’t “anarchistic” enough … well, they can do their best to prevent this diversification-of-the-fediverse that I’m going to be doing, & hope others will, too.
I want as many competing against me as possible, see?
More fun!

PS: managed hosting is a requirement for the paradigm to work: I’ve ZERO interest in SysAdmin either as a profession or as a hobby ( those days are … last-century, for me ).
Just adding that so that any other who’s interested in the paradigm will know what to find, to make it work for them.

PPS: https://elest.io/open-source/piefed just became available within the last 24h.
Lemmy managed-hosting is available there, too, & on other managed-hosting providers, as well. ( e.g. https://elest.io/open-source/lemmy )
NOW we who don’t want to sysadmin linux can choose between both platforms, for making our personal-publishing site, or for any community relying on either platform ( my use-case obiously isn’t the most common, or most needed! : )
Here is Elest.io’s full list ( no, I’m NOT an “affiliate” of theirs: I’ve tried their NodeBB, which … NodeBB looks nice, but there were some brokennesses in it, which forced me to ditch my project/site, & just hold-back & wait. WORKS-RIGHT is more-fundamental than looks-nice! ) https://elest.io/fully-managed-services
ANYone who wants to put a reply to my comment, listing OTHER managed-hosting-providers, PLEASE do-so!!
: )
This is for the community’s benefit!
& the better the diversity-of-options, the better for our community!
Salut, Namaste, Kaizen, & Gratitude!

I joined to make silly comments and hang around y’all. And I’ll post in the unlikely event I find anything worth posting.
I count it as a success if the fediverse grows organically.

I want to bring over r/dragonsfuckingcars community from Reddit. But the chances of it gaining it’s previous glory are nonexistent, and I’m no moderator.

Interesting. I haven’t been called dumb this whole week.
Maybe you need to make different choices about which discussions you enter into and which communities you subscribe to.

I’ve been scheduling posts fairly regularly on my non-admin account. When I left Reddit, I started following a number of RSS feeds and newsletters, so there’s always one or two things each day worth sharing (and usually more when I skip a few days).
Otherwise I’m hoping to spread more of the positivity that I got when I started out here

Started a vodcast fireside fedi, followed by a nonprofit BTfree.org, followed by a peertube general purpose platform tubefree.org . And hopefully MUCH more in the future!
And I am grateful for everyone on the fediverse. Posts like this on how people are helping is absolutely incredible! Together is how we’ll make this last forever.

My goal is to abolish all Linux and star trek talk, I plan to have this be a desolate ghost town by mid 2027

NOTHING will ever convince me to base my career-viability on wordpress, which is PHP based.
https://whydoesitsuck.com/why-does-php-suck/ ( notice that TRUE == TRUE == FALSE in PHP, which I consider intolerable, in critical-infrastructure )
Sorry.
PieFed’s Python based ( I wish it had been Julia-based: both less-ugly AND higher-performance, by engineering-of-the-language-to-the-CPU-architectures ),
& doing it in a good high-level language means that dev-effort can go into getting the architecture right, instead of slogging-through the low-level details, which Rust-based platforms force.
Until the architecture’s sorted, I think that Haskell would probably be the ultimate domain-cracking/prototyping language for developing such a platform.
Wordpress, though? Zed Shaw ended up HATING it, & I tend to agree with people who value effectiveness in infrastructure, as he does.
It solved the problem of getting everybody dependent on it, but it didn’t solve either the security problems, or the correct-code problem, or the properly enabling-people-who-want-structured-publishing-with-discussion-and-karma-systems-and-federation-and-different-kinds-of-communities problem.
Same as Microslop’s beloved no-keyboard-warrior/ALL mouse-based paradigm: helped some, & hobbled others.
Each paradigm whether platform or language helps some, & hobbles others.
Wordpress needs to be obsoleted from our world, yesterday, forever, in my view.
So does PHP.
PHP thinks the boolean value
trueis equals to the string"foobar"while"foobar"is equal to0, yet0is not equal totrue.( :
