As much as the influx of Europeans to the fediverse is lovely to see, the European/North American bias here is really striking. That’s of course not a problem of too many Europeans, but rather not enough other people.

Seems like a nice occasion for a reminder that this stuff is all made and run on a volunteer basis. There are many ways to contribute, but the easiest by far is by donating a little bit of money on a regular basis! Don’t be deterred by feeling you have to give a lot - if a lot of people give a little that’s much better. So give a little!
I use Liberapay, but patreon and ko-fi links are available under the “Donate” menu entry at piefed.social. The average LiberaPay contributor gives less than a dollar per week—which is awesome.
Alternatively, if you’re on another instance, consider giving a little bit to your instance to help keep it running! It’s all running on love and goodwill, and it works precisely because people like you decide it’s worth contributing.

I really love that you’re building a South African instance!
