I really love that youāre building a South African instance!
As much as the influx of Europeans to the fediverse is lovely to see, the European/North American bias here is really striking. Thatās of course not a problem of too many Europeans, but rather not enough other people.
Thanks, itās quite fun to setup and run an instance and helping the community grow.
Hopefully I can get a bunch of South African and Africans to join my instance.But anyone is welcome.

Seems like a nice occasion for a reminder that this stuff is all made and run on a volunteer basis. There are many ways to contribute, but the easiest by far is by donating a little bit of money on a regular basis! Donāt be deterred by feeling you have to give a lot - if a lot of people give a little thatās much better. So give a little!
I use Liberapay, but patreon and ko-fi links are available under the āDonateā menu entry at piefed.social. The average LiberaPay contributor gives less than a dollar per weekāwhich is awesome.
Alternatively, if youāre on another instance, consider giving a little bit to your instance to help keep it running! Itās all running on love and goodwill, and it works precisely because people like you decide itās worth contributing.
Itās absolutely worth it to give to the Piefed project for how much effort these folks put in. If I were a developer Iād contribute that way, too.

Yes, MAU is a bit misleading like thatā¦ Maybe 20% of them will stick around if weāre lucky.
