PieFed user surge continues! đ

Piefed is also a part of the Fediverse, and reads Lemmy instances. Lemmy.zip also has a Piefed server at http://piefed.zip.
So essentially itâs just another instance? Do I need to create an account on a piefed instance to get the benefits of piefed vs Lemmy (which Iâm not sure what I would actually get different).

Same protocol, yes, so they share all the same content. And a lot of apps originally built for Lemmy now work with PieFed too. Voyager is one of them so if you have an account on a PieFed server/instance you can just add that to Voyager.
When using a mobile app thereâs not much difference for the average person. But PieFed instances have a lot of mod and admin tools which will tend to improve the quality of the content and people you come across, if thatâs how the server admins want to make it. https://join.piefed.social/features
Ah, ok. This clears it up a bit. So itâs moreso about the communities that are hosted on a piefed instance - as they have better moderation tools.
Thanks!

Yes, you would
Currently Piefed has tools lemmy doesnât: emote reactions, flairs, hashtags, polls, events, scheduled posts, feeds

A day later and itâs still going up at the same rate!
Itâs actually going up even faster!!

So we donât see posts from piefed in here?

No, you do. You are commenting on a piefed post to a piefed user.
You just donât get all the extra bits I mentioned

If by âdirect trafficâ you mean to send them there, then Iâd say we donât need that, and shouldnât want it. The whole reason federation works is because control is spread out. Giving one, or a few, instances control of most of the content and users is a horrible idea and begging for issues. Speaking of, if youâre on lemmy.world, you should consider spreading elsewhere. At least donât send new people there.
A small instance isnât going to grow past PieFed.social in 1 day, let alone an actually big instance like Lemmy.world. If an instance grows too big then we just stop suggesting it and pick a new instance to suggest.

People still direct people to Lemmy.world. A lot of people donât understand the benefits of federation still and want everyone on one instance. They wonât stop when an instance gets too large.

Well yeah but those arenât the people reading this thread

I donât know. I wouldnât be so sure. Itâs a good idea to spread the message anywhere.

Oh no⊠Some of that might be bots.

Bots sign up anyway. This is driven by effective advertisement on Reddit.

Ah ok. I can live with that

Honest question here. Since itâs all the same stuff⊠why do I as a fediverse user care about piefed if itâs basically an admin toolbox?
Itâs cool admins have good tools to minimize workload., but beyond that?

PieFed. Just make an account and follow the onboarding. Youâll start noticing differences immediately.

Ok. But once Iâm in will I see the same content as on Lemmy?

Yep. You can export your settings from Lemmy and import then into your PieFed account, so all your community memberships and blocks will be replicated.
Registration is currently closed on piefed.social due to a DDoS so try any other.

Yeah, general use with somewhat if a focus on the Nordics âmarketâ, but Iâm not planning on launching competing communities against anything existing.
Btw can I suggest joining the Zulip or the Piefed matrix chats.
