@bh "When a service provider makes grandiose changes to their ToS that don’t favor me, I quit or cancel their service." Not sure where you're located, but in practice this is not always possible.
At least once service I was on, for me to get on there again and cancel would have been me "consenting" to their policy. So there was no real way to deny. I never went back, but I was not able to safely get my data out or delete the account.
@kimlockhartga I'm glad it's at least slightly better in California, but it's been decades of being sold out by legislators and judiciary that should have been guarding the public's interest. Not just enforcing antittrust laws and privacy laws already on the books, but keeping abreast of tech instead of always being late to the fray.
@Nonya_Bidniss @kimlockhartga Sometimes they don't even offer you the option to exit because you disagree. That is, if you go to the site to delete your account (if it's even possible to gracefully exit), you entering the site again is taken as "consent".

American Distillation pleaded guilty in December 2025 to knowingly discharging pollutants into the Cape Fear River over four years. Under its plea agreement, the company faced a fine of up to $500,000 and agreed to establish and enforce an environmental compliance plan.

The book on The 43 Group is inspiring, surprising, and also infuriating when you learn how EVEN AFTER WWII, Mosley et al were fucking coddled by the gov't.
@clickhere Perhaps it was a skewed story, but after reading about the 43 Group, I feel like the only reason Mosley et al didn't manage to overrun the UK even post-WWII was because of the sacrifices those men & women made fighting them on the streets when "the law" was clearly going to tolerate or protect fascism.

Sometimes it's hard not to be reactive in the replies.
Women get reply guys all the time. In real life & online.
Some have more patience than others. For me, repeated abuse throughout my lifetime has made my skin thinner, not thicker.
So when ppl offer unsolicited advice, or when I don't mention every possible permutation of something up front...if ppl act as if that means I'm ignorant of it or think it unimportant, I can have a reaction that may seem out of proportion to the reply.
But that's because this is cumulative. For people marginalized in one or more ways, in person and online, replies happen against a background of genuinely having one's expertise & work disrespected regularly.
So if you think you're getting blasted without having earned it, it's possible you're right. Maybe. But when replying to marginalized people here, think about that mountain of reply guy stuff first and whether you want to be mistaken for the reply guy that started an avalanche. #9ReplyGuys
