@cyberquixote i saw this on a website that was soon deactivated. then i found it in a wordpress blog that was soon deactivated. luckily, i had archived it with the wayback machine but that was before i understood that the web archive is fkn useless - i haven’t been able to access it in over a year. LUCKILY - i had also copied and pasted it into a proton document because i anticipated more problems that would lead to the disappearance this important piece.

@cyberquixote and this is why it’s so fkn important that we all learn how to archive the parts of the web that are important to us - and not depend on some nonprofit or “some guy” (in the case of archive .is) to hold onto it for us.

One is presented with a choice by existing in capitalist society. It is a restricted choice that must be made within the context of inescapable mental illness. One can choose to let capitalism have an eternal hold on one’s life, thus resigning oneself to a dehumanizing, depressing, physically and psychologically degrading life. That path is the one of defeat and has a certain end either in one’s natural death after a life of misery, or one’s murder by capitalist society by means of suicide. However, one can also choose the path of rebellion. One can choose to position oneself against capitalism, to acknowledge and embrace one’s illness and recognize how the struggle for freedom can be born from one’s suffering. That is the path of dignity, the path that gives a reason to live on, even when circumstances seem overwhelming, it is the path that chooses life over death, the possibility of victory over certain defeat, and autonomy over subjugation. That path may very well end in death while engaging in struggle, but the cause of death would be not suicide, but martyrdom, and would render one not just a simple casualty of capitalist exploitation, but an immortal member of the people’s struggle. One day, all the contributions of those who chose to stand up against the system that makes us all sick, will do away with capitalism, along with the mental illness it causes. However for that day to come, the people of the world must choose to take the mental illness they all possess and use it to fuel their world historic fight for the liberation of all mankind. In other words, the world’s people must, as the SPK used to say:

Yeah like, it's death either way, so you might as well resist!

Some suicides are not murder, and people get way too deluded in the sanctity of life. Capitalists benefit from this too, robbing families by manipulating them into keeping their dying loved ones alive through various horrible and expensive medical procedures.

But yeah, capitalists also push people to commit suicide. Whatever's convenient for them.

Sorry I've known more people who had horrible lingering deaths than suicide. They're both really sad.

@cy and why were they condemned to such agony in their final years? why is it always about “the right to die with dignity” and never the right to full comprehensive palliative care? what if instead of convincing doctors it’s ok to kill people, we fought for investment in medical advancements? what if we didn’t treat all patients as potential drug addicts? what if we held the system accountable for that instead of eating their shit without question? of course capitalists would rather we fight for the right to let them exterminate us rather than demanding they give up any of their precious nickels and dimes to let us be alive with dignity.

If I could do something for a man with dementia so bad that he no longer spoke or recognized anyone, or reacted to anything, I sure would. But seeing his wife just crying and crying in our small group because she had to be his primary caregiver since she couldn't afford the $3000 a week to pay someone else to feed him and wipe his ass, and nobody would let her let him go... didn't make me feel very bad about someone passing away. We need universal, socialized health care, so that the criteria for keeping people alive is not how much money they have. We need people researching medical advancements for the good of humanity. We also need to know when to let go.

@cy so your threshold for when it’s “time to let go” is when someone becomes an inconvenience. why is it that you can only imagine one single change to the system, while everything else remains exactly the same? it’s that kind of thinking that holds us all back. it’s not harmless. you do not need to conjure up scenarios in which you think “surely this person should be exterminated” - nobody needs that from you. we’ve got plenty of fascists who do that. if you find yourself doing that, it’s a sign that you keep thinking, and not respond immediately. it’s actually GOOD to spend time thinking and considering and reflecting on ideas.

I just talked about universal health care and eliminating privately funded research. That is a lot of changes to the system.
