              @ploum It's cool to see this stuff going full on Evangelical vibes.

              Chronically addicted to computers but hysterical about machine learning seems a bit of a pickle....don't call it AI or WhateverGPT: call it computers.

              Who needs accessibility anyway, people should just work harder and be smarter.

                @ploum It seems your article is full of anti-AI cliches. It's so full of stereotypes, of common trites and harangues, that I would even suspect that it was authored by an LLM... Now, that would be self-defeating, no?

                  @proinsias
                  Except computers and gen AI are two completely different things - one is deterministic and can be relied on, the other is an unreliable and easily biased black box. Why on earth would you want to call them the same thing? 🤔
                  Also, why would you want a slop generating machine to help with accessibility? This is exactly the situation where you'd want the most reliable output, since the person using it cannot check the validity of the output.
                  All the money currently going into genAI is a giant waste and could instead go to more reliable and useful solutions for accessibility.

                      @elduvelle All clichés are based on a simplistic truthful statement... The point is not wnat's visible. It's what's deliberately omitted. The thousand cases that you can find on Reddit of people working with LLMs to create something way faster with great quality. Ignoring that is pure snobbery. And I'm against against all kinds of snobs. I'm with the people who find new, interesting, and creative uses for technology.

                        @elduvelle I'm not sure they are.

                        This all seems very religious as you try to decide which cpu's cycles are angels or daemons.

                        If we go back to Ada Lovelace kinda time it's there from the get go as the goal, they have been intertwined since far longer than I've been alive. Deep Blue vs Kasparov seemed like the big jump to me.

                        Avoiding AI fine, but don't lash out at plebs as one is emotional or confused.

                        Delete your corporate banking, GCC and the linux kernel gotta go, MacOS, Windows and Android need to be binned long ago. Real time maps, air travel, chess apps, predicative text, computer games, translation systems, biomedical science, vaccines and on it goes....but it's much easier to attack poor peeps on the socials than act on this stuff.

                        If you are handcrafting your binaries and gonna refuse all modern vaccines fair enough but the performative stuff a grim read.

                          In the part about "I will not listen to the discussion", it sounds like you might want to know about the wonderful new term "meat proxy".

                            yes, and all the linux advocates have actually just themed their windows to look like kde, and all the plant-based dishes posted on mastodon are actually dead animals. /s

                            can i please just double-check that you're not concern trolling to justify your own use of genAI?

                            if you're genuinely worried: the post isn't genAI.
